Welcome to the Wyoming Area Health Education Center web site. Our AHEC mission is to increase access to quality health care and to use educational methods to attract and retain health care providers in areas of need. Programs and services offered through Wyoming AHEC are community-based and focus on community and academic partnerships. AHEC provides health career recruitment programs for K-12 students and increases access to health care in medically underserved areas.

Educational interventions are intended to; promote disease prevention and improve health; encourage interdisciplinary-primary care services; encourage health care cost containment; establish community-based training sites for students in service-learning and clinical capacities; provide continuing education programs for health care professionals; and evaluate the needs of underserved communities.

Our hope is that this web site will be useful to health care providers, educators, and students around Wyoming.

National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP) Memberships for Wyoming Community College Advisors/Faculty

Wyoming, like many states, is facing a healthcare worker shortage. Identifying and supporting students with the potential to be successful healthcare providers is essential. Gaining acceptance to healthcare professional programs is not easy.

While UW has specially trained academic advisors dedicated to advising students considering healthcare careers (e.g. medicine, dentistry, PA, PT, OT, etc.), increasing numbers of students spend a year or more at Wyoming's community colleges before transferring to UW.
While prehealth professions advisors are available to all Wyoming residents, students not enrolled at UW rarely seek their guidance. It is essential that community college students recieve well-informed advice and direction for thier academic course of study and outside of class activities.
